Title: Introduction to Instructional Video

Client: Internal Project
Made with: In person workshop, iPhones were used to record, and Camtasia was used to edit the videos.
Time in Development: 8 hours (the workshop was a 4-hour ILT)
Collaborators: Solo-Project

Background:
A one day workshop was needed for high school students and teachers to learn how to create instructional videos, the goals were to introduce the learners to a systematic approach to video development, some project management skills, and hands-on learning with video editing.

Solution Developed:
A four-hour instructor-led workshop was developed where learners planned their instruction, learned the basics of video recording such as the “rule of thirds” and basic lighting. They had time to separate and record video independently, and the workshop ended with instruction on using Camtasia to edit video.

The main constraints were that the instruction was to be instructor-led and there was only a single day available to deliver the instruction.

Results:
While additional instructional time would have been helpful given the students were producing an original instructional video this could have been overcome with either an online preparation session or additional guidance for students to have an idea for a video before they arrived.

Below is an example of what the students had produced by the end of the workshop (this example was my son’s):
